The development of software industry in Shanghai is rapid

It is said in 2007 Shanghai Global IT Outsourcing Summit that the employees of software industry in Shanghai have reached 150,000 people, from January to August this year, the operating income of software industry in Shanghai has reached 54.15 billion yuan, it has increased 29.6%, and it is expected that it will reach 80 billion yuan during the whole year. This is what the reporter got from "2007 Shanghai Global IT Outsourcing Summit". This conference was held by Shanghai Municipal Foreign Economic Relations and Trade Commission with the conjunction of Shanghai Municipal Information Commission.

Shanghai has initially formed the software industry chain of "Do software products exporting, materials processing, system integration, overall plan and software services simultaneously". Up to the end of September this year, there are 178 regional headquarters of transnational corporations and 215 foreign research and development centers approved in Shanghai, this forms relatively rich client resources of software outsourcing, and a large number of renowned international service outsourcing enterprises have been stationed in Shanghai.

This summit attracted 300 representatives from the Nomura Research Institute in Japan, Germany SPA Academy in China, MorganChambres in the United Kingdom, HannaStrategiesLLc in the United States, NEC, NTT Data Corporation, and other world-renowned software and information enterprises and institutions. The representatives of all the countries discussed about the trend of software outsourcing and China’s opportunity, the competitiveness and capital operation of software enterprises, the construction of enterprise’s information security system, the training of professional talents and the acts of the government to promote software outsourcing, and so on.

According to the statistics of Shanghai Foreign Economic and Trade Committee, in 2006, the revenue of Shanghai software industry was 61.6 billion yuan, the export of software was 990 million US dollars, respectively accounting for about one-eighth and one-sixth of the national total. Among the 152 key software enterprises planned by the government, there are 26 enterprises in Shanghai, the annual income of 10 enterprises have exceeded 100 million yuan.

It is introduced that at present, Shanghai confirms the information technology and software industry as one of the six supporting industries, and establish the development fund for software industry. The contribution rate of information industry to the city’s high-tech industry is as high as 90%; in the past five years, the average annual total income of the whole industry has maintained the increasing of 30%. There are more than 150,000 employees of software industry in Shanghai, and more than 1200 effective cognizance companies, of which, there are 12 enterprises having more than 1000 employees, 70 enterprises have the average annual income more than 100 million yuan, and 10 software enterprises have been listed in home and abroad. 26 software enterprises in Shanghai are being planned by China, which is accounting for 1/6 of the total number; 14 key export-oriented software companies, which is accounting for 1/3 of China. The market has formed the software outsourcing distribution which is mainly in Japanese market and supplemented in Europe and the United States.

It has been learned that most enterprises in Shanghai are mainly undertake those basic businesses, and few of them undertake business process outsourcing (BPO).
